2011 WHS Volleyball Tryouts

Tryouts for the 2011 Westside High School Volleyball Program will be held on Monday August 1,2010 starting at 8am. Registration and paperwork processing will begin at 7:15 am. Please be advised that all players must have a current physical to take part in the tryout. Tryouts will be conducted on Monday August 1st as well as Tuesday August 2nd. The first practices for all teams will be held on Wednesday August 3rd.

2011 Summer Strength and Conditioning

This summer WHS volleyball will conduct its 6 week-long strength and conditioning sessions. These sessions are open to any students who attend or will attend WHS for the 2011-2012 school year. These sessions will run from June 6-July 21 Monday-Thursday from 8am-10 am. Athletes will meet at the WHS track each morning. Please be sure to wear proper workout clothes, comfortable shoes and bring water and a towel.

These sessions are not a part of the 2011-2012 tryout process and athletes who wish to tryout are not required to attend. Attendance for these sessions will not be used as a basis for the tryout evaluation in August.

HISD Pre Athletic Participation Physicals

Conway Commits

Congratulations to Senior Middle Blocker Assata Conway who committed to Howard University in Washington, DC. Conway signed a full scholarship to play Division 1 volleyball for Howard in the Fall.

Below Conway is pictured during the HISD National Signing day that was held at Delmar Stadium Wednesday February 2, 2011. She was among 114+ HISD athletes who signed letters of intent with various colleges and universities.

2010-2011 Varsity Volleyball Season Review

The 2010-2011 Lady Wolves Varsity Volleyball Team closed out the season with an overall record of 26-11. This is the first 20 win season here at Westside for Head Coach Brittany Williams as well as the first in several years for Westside. The Lady Wolves finished 2nd in District with an overall district record of 14-2 only dropping matches to Bellaire.

During the first round of District play the Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Mustangs of Katy Taylor High School 3-1 in a grueling match. Jr Setter/Outside Hitter Tiffany Davis recorded her first ever triple double with 13 Kills, 22 Assists and 10 Digs. Jr Outside Hitter Robyn Shannon recorded a double double with 16 kills and 18 digs. Senior Middle Blocker Assata Conway finished with 5 kills and 5 blocks will Jr Defensive Specialist Lexi Martinez finished with 21 digs. This was the first time in 5 years that the Lady Wolves advanced to the Area Finals for Playoffs.

The Lady Wolves faced off against Houston Cypress Woods during the Area round of playoffs. The Lady Wolves were defeated 3-0 by the #3 ranked team in the State. Jr Tiffany Davis had an outstanding match and lead the team in aces, assists and kills.

2010 Varsity Preseason Overview

The 2010 Westside Varsity Volleyball Team finished preseason with a record of 9-8. Westside saw tough fought loses to Montgomery, Katy and Foster. The Lady Wolves proved to be tough opponents and outlasted Kempner, New Caney and Texas City.

The Lady Wolves finished preseason strong by taking 1st place in the Silver division of the Montgomery invitational tournament. Congratulations to Senior Middle Blocker Assata Conway who was voted “Best Defensive Player” for her outstanding blocking throughout the tournament. Also, congrats to Junior Setter Tiffany Davis who was voted “Best Setter” for the tournament.

Varsity will open district play this Tuesday August 24th vs Milby at 6:30 at Butler Stadium.

Sr. Assata Conway and Jr. TIffany Davis were voted to the All-Tournament team for the Montgomery Invitational Tournament
